Coincidentally, Aidan Turner previously filmed at Chavenage House (The Priory in Rivals)
Tale
Follows Rupert Campbell-Black and Tony Buddingham as their long-standing rivalry comes to a head.. The same location was used to portray Trenwith House in the 2015 BBC Poldark TV adaptation..
I read Rivals a few years ago and enjoyed every page!
It’s quite difficult to compare a book and its characters to its TV adaptation, as we all bring our own perception of how certain characters should look and behave. Also, although we can read a book at our leisure, television should move at a pace that fits the format and doesn’t drag, so some characters or subplots may have to be cut to save time.
Makes us love Declan as much as we hate Lord Bee!
At the same time, yes, there are differences from the book, but none of them are so significant that it spoils the overall entertainment value. The characters, especially Aidan Turner as Declan O’Hara, an honest journalist, and David Tennant, the nasty Lord Bee, are great!
It was wonderful to see Jilly Cooper herself in the wall of a restaurant lunch
The 80s music is fantastic, although the only thing I found annoying is the opening shrill operatic music, just not very appropriate. As for all the sexual walls, yes, we could do without some, because we all have imaginations, but it wouldn’t be what Cooper wrote in the book.
She looked like she loved the show as much as I did
The last episode didn’t end the way the book did, so I’m hoping there’ll be at least one more season where we’ll see what happens to Taggy and RCB… And of course, we know that the nasty Lord B is due to be around to sow even more chaos.
