Tale
A modern tale of fortune-telling in the world of West Texas oil rigs
See writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV shows on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so that they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (man camp), set up the excavation machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, fixers, troubleshooters, and facilitators.
It’s his show!
Taylor Sheridan makes his female characters very superficial, even when they seem strong, so this series is no different. But, the show is a winner for me because Billy Bob steals every scene; even the ones where the scantily clad women appear! The way the oil business is depicted is probably very true to how the industry is run.
His female characters are extremely flawed
BB has the best lines describing the value of oil and what makes the world (oil) go round. The sets are great, how the rigs work is actually quite enlightening. I just don’t get the daughter being such an idiot and the wife being such a loser, but I suppose that’s Sheridan’s way.
But for great lines and Billy Bob Thornton at his best, watch this show
He’s brilliant.
